I recently got a deal on a furuno GP1850W gps/chartplotter. I have the power cable and antenna but need to order echo sounder for depth/fishfinder functions to work. Does anyone have a recomendation of what exactly I need so I can order it. Not that familiar with marine electronics. Any help would be much appreciated.

If the unit did not come with a transducer, you need to decide if you want a thru hull or a transom mount. I think you want one that has a 50 / 200 khz range for most fishing around here.

Try looking Airmar
They have pretty much any kind of transducer out there, and great quality as well. Good luck,,, if you need any help, PM I'll be happy to help you out...

Any marine electronics dealer will be able to cross-reference the unit to the necessary transducer. I'm sure a couple will see this post and reply or just look in the yellow pages. If you are on the middle peninsula I would recommend Marine Electronics of Hartfield, super good people.

OK, I gotcha. I was looking at the features and thought that it was all inclusive.

If you find that a 1650W Transom-Mount transducer will work, I'll give you a good deal on one.

If it's a 1850W then it's only a plotter. The WF and WDF models include the dual frequency fish finders. Both the 1650 and 1850 use a 10 pin plug so the transducers are interchangeable, if you're interested in Fishin-Magician's unit. HEre's a link to the options for the 1850 transducers. http://www.furunousa.com/Furuno/Rooms/DisplayPages/LayoutInitial?Container=com.webridge.entity.Entity[OID[7E8B71E03D332441B0C42F42B41FDC97]]&Product=com.webridge.entity.Entity[OID[D0C131B20CF6E341AD90A7DCDF265247]]&ProductCategory=com.webridge.entity.Entity[OID[574784B72D00ED48B6496621264D8FC8]]&ContainerTemplate=com.webridge.entity.Entity[OID[63DB08D26DDA9F47B15C4E0FE43AAE60]] Performance wise you can go from transom mount, to shoot thru to thru hull, and from 600 kw up to 1,000 kw. What you need to spend on a transducer will largely depend on where you want to fish. If you stay in the bay and near shore you can get by with a 600 watt transom mount. If you want to go deeper, you need to start looking at thru hulls up to 1,000 watts.
