Congratulations to you guys. So am I ever going to meet some of you? I ask all my customers who come through, do you belong to the NNAC? Hope to meet some of you. We even had steamed hot dogs here and chips for you. Maybe next time. I received a phone call from Tom Smith so he was explaining a few things to me, so now I understand more about the NNAC. Congratulations to the winners! Brigitte;-)

Dave, Yes. It was great to get to chat with you some. We'll have to get you on with us sometime. Evan was beside himself. That's his personal best Rock. He lost a monster last year with a straightend hook that we got to see. (mid to High 40's?) He was due. This Was Jim's first tourney as a mamber. He's fished with us in them before and even won one last year if I remember right. See you soon.

Congrats to the winners! My personal tale of woe (or the BIG ONE that got away story): fought a really strong fish for ten minutes, got her to the side of the boat and she wouldn't fit into the net. As I reached down to grab and lift by the parachute in her jaw she flipped the hook, flipped me the finger, and swam away. Was an easy 46", fat fish, potentially a winner. Moral: should have bought a BIGGER net!

Congratulations to John and crew. Smart decision to move your boat from Lagrange Creek in the Rap to Lewisetta for the Spring season. Oops! I may have revealed the general vicinity of your catch being in the Potomac.
But the post by Creekster makes me think that there might be some nice fish in the Rap,too. (You were fishing in the Rap, weren't you, Creekster?)

Just checked the list and noted that the first and third place winners in the NNAC Trophy Rockfish Tournament attended the meeting of the NNAC the previous weekend. Could be that the mini-seminar by Ken Chaffin and Capt. Dave Compton and the fishing reports shared by members helped put them on the fish with the right presentations.
Something to think about before the next NNAC meeting for the latest tips on what's biting and where.
I also attended the meeting, but on Sunday, we lost our hydraulic steering around 8 AM and had to quit and limp home after catching one small keeper.

Richard, you tale of woe hit home. I was fishing at Deep Creek Lake in western Maryland. My companion had a huge Northern Pike on and called for me to "Get The Net". It was his boat and the only net he had on board was so small only about a third of the pike would fit into it. I tried to swoosh it up into the boat but it just came unhooked and swam away. I bought him a much bigger for the net the next time I went with him.

No, Tom. Moved my boat to Smith Pt. for the month and fished that area figuring the fish are moving south. Marked bait balls and had another good one on for a while.

Creekster,
Thanks for the reply. You probably saved me some fuel and time in not searching the Rap. I will continue to look to MD and the SP area for the spring bigguns.
You do have a bigger net now, don't you. I had a similar experience with a tournament winning flounder that was in the net, but the hook caught near the rim and the flounder flopped and summersaulted out of the net. I just shook my head and saluted her efforts.

BTW, I saw another post where a fellow attended his first NNAC meeting and using the information presented at the meeting, had an excellent day of catching trophy stripers. Lots of information available at the NNAC meetings.
