Ok Continued problems are pestering me,,, maybe last weeks crappy fishing trip along with to many "Cheese and Rice comments got me...

I have a 19 ft centruy bay boat... My steering was acting funny lots of slop..
I noticed that I had fluid coiming out of the top of the reservior just under the sterring wheel... I checked the fluid and it was low so I added fluid and Bled the lines with a very Nice Gentleman at Olversons marina " Red" He's the Best.

The sterring got better but still a bit of resistance turning to the port side.. The fluid is still coming out from the top of the reservior... .. when I looses the pulg I hear air escaping.. I know this is pushing the fluid up and out where I see it..

Is there Possibly a Seal issues or can anyone point me in the right direction... Checking the reservior again and agian is loosing the fluid and I have to add more...

Boat is only 3 years old...

It sounds like the seal. Relatively easy to replace, pull the steering wheel, remove the 3 screw holding the plate, pull the old seal out. It will look similar to a flat washer, either 3/4 or 1" ID. Take to your local hydraulics shop (Hampton Rubber, see Steve) and he will have a replacement. Reassemble and done.

Do a search on the type of cylinder you have as well. Some of those have to be pressurized and bled with a bike pump to be able to get the fluid back in the lines.

remove the little cap, turn it over - is there an O ring on it ?> if there aint it should have one.....if there is, is it rotted or mashed flat on one side or crimped at all ?

Like jammie said the cap should have an o ring on it. You can replace the o ring or replace the entire cap, look for brand and order one, easy fix.

Replace the cap seal and the other seal after you take the steering wheel off. That worked for me.
