Was unable to use the search so I figured I would ask. Does anyone have any knowledge of the Shimano Corvalus. I am looking for a baitcaster for my 7" medium light ugly stick. Been looking for a reel that wont break the bank and will be a multi purpose all around reel. I fish a lot for perch in the creeks, fish close to the shore for stripers and anything in between that will bite. I dont go out to very big water since my boat is kinda small, 14' flat bottem. All fishing is done in delaware, hoping to fish Md, sassafras river this year. Local shop has the shimano corvalus, seems like a decent reel but I dont have to much knowledge of the shimanos. If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it!
Thanks
Justin

Great reels. I use several of the Bass fishing. Just about anything made by Shimano is good stuff.

Thanks ketch69, seems like a decent reel. I am just worried about reliability. Prolly will stop back in a look at it again in the next couple of days. If anyone else has any comments I would really appreciate it!

I picked up a pair on Ebay real cheap. I have used them mostly for catfish/striper and have brought in a few 30-40+. No issues with the reel, just have to play the bigger ones a bit. Drag, level wind, handle all seem solid. Not bad for the money. I have them on similar Ugly Stiks.

Thanks, my impatience got the better of me and I ended up buying it. I read conflicting reports but seemed to see a lot of good talk about it. Got it strung up and played with it last night with a sinker in the back yard. Seems to cast real well, nice and smooth and doesnt seem to be to big for whhen we go perchin. NOW the only problem is this dang weather. Need it to straighten out for about a week so the fish will start biting again and I can try it out!

Thanks guys, I really appreciate all the comments. Unfortunatly the weather here really hasnt allowed me to get out and try the reel out. Wind blew all dang weekend and now they are calling for even more rain today! Was really hoping it would stay clear for a while so the water can clear up but it really doesnt look good! Will let you guys know how I make out the first chance I get

Congrats on your new toy. Now that you have ventured into the baitcasting realm of fishing you will end up getting more and more of these reels..hehe About the Shimano Corvalus, it is a nice starter baitcaster that can handle most of your freshwater needs and is a decent inshore reel as well. If you use it in the salt though you will have to do lots of preventative maintenance to keep it operating flawlessly. I own more baitcasters now than i do spinners for saltwater. Mostly because i wanted to see what i liked the best. I can say that the Shimano line of baitcasters are the best (personal opinion) for saltwater. I have a full line of them ranging from the calcutta 250 to the Chronarchs. They are very forgiving and very powerful. I've pulled 20lb stripers on the 250 and 10lbs test line. Good luck fishing and have fun. :)

Thankyou, This is actually my first salt water bait caster, I have two fresh water baitcaster but never really go the hang of them Guess my fresh water lures are light, I was practicing with the new corvalus in the yard and was placing it everwhere I wanted with a 2 oz sinker on the end of the line. Seems to cast very smooth. Looks like tonight will be the maiden voyage for her(as long as I get off work on time) so we will see what happens

I have a right hand and a left hand corvalus, Fish them both strictly in saltwater and have not had any problems with them. Have caught spadefish up to 8 pounds and rockfish up to 15 on them with no problem. As with anything else in saltwater just make sure you give it a good freshwater rinse at the end of the day. Been using my lefty for for 2 years now with no stuck drag and it can cast a 1/4 ounce bait with ease.
