Hello,
I just moved to NW DC area. I was wondering where the best place to buy well priced live crabs might be? Bethesda Crab house is cool but I think you can only buy them cooked there. Any suggestions would be awesome! Also I go crabbing a lot but I don't know the area are DC very well. Is edgewater the closest place to crab? Is there anywhere closer? thanks!

You might want to try Maine Ave in SW. Second largest open air seafood market in the US (Fulton fish market in NYC is bigger. You h ave to know what good crabs look like, cause they will sell you buckrams if you dont watch em.

I'm having a hell of a time finding any one who carries them. The wharf has them I guess but I was hoping to find soemthing closer to me. Blacksalt doesn't have any and neither did a and h.

Mels crabs is a good source--he is a bit of a drive and not inexpensive, but he has good crabs. I have no affiliation to him, but I do sometimes buy from him.
Mels Crabs (http://www.melscrabs.com)
As the season progresses some of the guys on this board sell crabs also, but I am not sure how close any of them are to DC.
As far as crabbing nearby, I live west of DC in Frederick Co, and I crab a lot on the Patuxent (down Rt 4 near Benedict and Broomes Island), and sometimes on the Severn near Annapolis and in the Kent Narrows and Eastern Bay area (over the Bay Bridge a little ways).

Don't know where you are in NW but this place isn't too far out of the district:
Cameron's Seafood
8603 16th St, Silver Spring, MD 20910
Telephone: (301) 585-5555
Category: Seafood
Featuring a variety of seafood platters and dishes, Cameron's seafood is also famous for their fresh Maryland crabs.

Thanks! Will they sell live crabs? I'm looking for crabs to bring home and cook but good crab houses are always good too!
