With only 42 hours between the time I left work on Friday and had to be back at work on Monday, I headed to the OBX in search of fish. Friday night was my 10th wedding anniversary, so I spent the evening with my girls. By the time I left VB it was almost midnight and I didn’t arrive to Oregon Inlet Fishing Center until 2AM. Enough time for a quick nap before hoping onboard Dream Girl with Captains Jason Snead and Jimmy Hillsman. We ran way south and started fishing at the 230 Rock then worked our way to the 280 picking up dolphin and yellowfin. Hit the dock just after 4 and I scored some tuna belly from the fish cleaning station then raced to Cape Point. With the beach closed due to bird nesting, I had to walk to the Point from Ramp 44. Once there, I found a handful of anglers in the midst of a drum blitz. I rigged up and joined the fun, but had a tough night loosing one big red in the wash and pulling the hook on two others. Fortunately other anglers were luckier, some guys landed as many as 6 fish while almost everyone caught at least one. Fished until 2 AM before walking back and driving to Teach’s Lair where I had enough time for a little nap before joining Captain Jim Bowman on Marlin Mania. Jim had a ¾ day trip, so we fished the rockpile and found a couple tuna and dolphin and a sailfish. We were back at the dock by 3, I picked up more bait was back on the Point by 5. Drum bite was going off again. This time I was lucky enough to get one to the beach. Fished until 11:30 and was home in time to grab a quick nap before heading to work Monday morning.

Returned to the Banks this weekend. Fished the Point Friday night and watched my buddy Jimmy (mate on the Dream Girl) land a fat red while I caught a big blue and two sandtiger sharks. Fished with Scott Warren on Big Tahuna Saturday and had a mixed catch of dolphin and tuna in very rough seas then (after a hard-earned good night's sleep) fished with Bowman on Marlin Mania and jigged up some horse amberjack then his crew caught a load of gaffer dolphin and two nice yellowfin. From the beach to the bluewater, it's hard to sleep in Hatteras.

TDAU: About a dozen people on the Point each night. Currently, you have to walk from Ramp 43. If you plan on fishing past 10pm, you have to park in the lot at 43 and walk. The hike is only about a mile, but you have to wade in the surf almost a half mile to get through the bird closure area. Of course, these restrictions can change at the discretion of a bird, so check the NPS website at Cape Hatteras National Seashore (U.S. National Park Service) (http://www.nps.gov/caha/) for the latest.
