We ran downstream to a place I had heard of fish being caught Saturday. Got lines in about 6:40 and had first hit at 7:10 - boated a nice fat 32" fish. Circled back and we got another strike at about 7:40, my, first time striper fisherman, guest, who had come down mainly to sail his 14 foot Albacore, had a long fight with a big fish while I steered and cleared a few lines off the stern. When they came close, we saw that he had a double hookup of a 40" fish and a 36" fish, nice beginner's luck! Netted them both and took a couple of quick pics and released the 36" which swam away.
We continued to circle in this area and I got to reel in a 38" 20 pound fish which we released after a photo, then we had about 3 fish in the 20" class which we just released alongside the boat. Had 2 more knockdowns and a couple fish which got off when my friend was reeling them in. AT flood tide we pulled lines up and headed in (about noon) nice morning!
We were concentrating on an area in about 38 feet of water toward the Virginia side across from Piney Point. All strikes were on umbrella rigs with no weight, and most were about 50 feet back off the planer boards, one hit was on a rig 180 feet back from the boat. One hit white, all others charteuse, but I had 75% chartruse out there. Saw a few other boats working that side from Coles point on down stream, but did not see or hear of a lot of action. We had one other boat come in near us but it did not stay. I could not identify any structure which made this a sweet spot, but the bite was good in the same vicinity for a couple of hours on the rising tide
