Anyone have a lowrance overheat while not in use? My 527 depth finder quit around thanksgiving and finally got it back 3rd week of january and was told that the unit was rated to only 150 degrees and that it had overheated. I installed it in late Oct. and it doesn't live under a cover. any suggestions? give up and go furuno?

I had a lowrance unit that failed and I sent it back and they said it was due to overheating it was a 600 something series model I can't remember which one right off. Anyway I like the way these units operate so I thought I'd give them another try and got the LCX-27C the 7 inch screen is much better . Also if you look at the back of the unit you can tell it is made differently to dissipate heat

The price they’re asking for the new Lowrance systems are nutz. For the life of me I can’t figure out why people would pay that type of money for plastic housings and hardware that has proven time and time again to have long term reliability issues.
Buy a Furuno and it just might be the last unit you ever buy.

Get a fairly thick white cloth. soak it in freshwater and lay it on your unit when you're not using it on the water. it prevents it keeps it cool as well as preventing it from fading. i usually keep several jugs of freshwater on the boat when i fish in saltwater. it comes in handy.

I have a Lowrance. I'm sticking with it for now. (Listen to Seahunter......heed the warning).

okay, so now that I've tried to install the unit they sent me back in jan. I find out that they've shipped me the wrong model. and would you believe that I still don't have the correct unit. I keep getting "promised" that it'll ship right away. Never and I mean NEVER will I have anything to do with another NAVICO product...
