Went fishing out of Oregon Inlet on Saturday. Everyone was pumped up. One angler short meant more for us? Well, the person who sponsored the trip got sea sick about 1hr out. The water looked to me like 5-6ft waves, it was real, real, ruff. Well after the box was just about full 10:30am, he (sick guy) had enough and decided for everyone else that it was time to head back in. I was not happy. We just got the two biggest two YFT of the trip. 417lbs total so I guess I cannot be too pissed off. The next time I know who not to fish with! :censored:

Man, I've never been seasick, but I have had nausea (from stomach virus), I'd rather have pain than nausea. It's gotta be bad out there if you're sick. Too bad. I'm sure he feels terrible about the whole thing.
I had a worse situation out there last year. I invited an otherwise good friend to go with me and when we got out there, he "mutinied". (I won't re-live the details of that trip; you guys don't want to hear it again). It was awful when I had to terminate the expedition and bring his sorry, obnoxious butt back to shore from 40 miles out, and on a beautiful day too. Nowadays I'm more careful.
You caught alot of fish though. I hope I can catch a total of that much this whole year.

If he got sick one hour out and still got you on that many fish and as you say the box was about full,I think he did an outstanding job.
I used to get sea sick alot but have over come it now.And more than once me being the Capt. and I got sick, the boat was turned back to the ramp early. It is not a good fealing chumming and fishing.
I think you need to give the guy a break.
If you felt that way if fishing with me and I was that sick,I wouldn't invite you back anyway.

No No NO fellas... If your sick on the boat, your toughing it out... Too much time money and effort go into coordinating a trip, so there are no early returns for sickos
Even if it is the Wifey!!!
So remember When you voluntarily step on to the boat to leave the dock for fishing, your in it for the long haul!!!
Man up and chum it up for your crew!

I agree as long as we are talking charters. My opinion, no single passenger is in charge. Yea one person may have done the coordination but if everyone is paying for the trip equally as is usually the case, then it's up to all 6 paying customers. Take a vote...majority rules is how it should be done. The guy who is seasick just needs to man-up and find a place to blow his chunks overboard. But if the majority voted yea, this is enough meat, let's go home early, then that's OK.
Now a private boat is different. If I get seasick and I'm the owner/Capt and I decide to go home early then it's my call because it's my boat. But I usually tough it out. I rarely get seasick but got a case of the runs one time but just kept visiting the head and toughed it out.
Anyways, sounds like you had a productive day with more meat than many full day trips.

every situation is different but to go in for a tummy ache is unacceptable. I make sure to tell anyone who steps on my boat or on a charter boat with us that seasickness is not an acceptable excuse to return. I once had a girl on the boat, this was a great friend and still is but I had no idea how sick she would get. after 5 hours of complaining she finally reached in her purse and handed me her cc and said all the fuel is on me, turn around and take me home. I looked at my brother and said, well if she insists then I guess we should head in. So on her demand and offer of payment we reeled them in and headed home. It was 4:00pm:D

Read slowly..."I guess I cannot be too pissed off"! Really I'm thankful! And blessed that we made it out and back in one piece. I just want it to be clear that I will never fish again with that guy unless he clearly states that will never happen again. And Thanks Chumslicker27 I didn't think I was the only one who felt this way. And if the guy in question reads this thread, sorry bro. But I don't get out there as often as you, that is why cutting it short was simply a bummer! Oh yea and "See Ya", consider the feelings mutual, and just to let you know if I ever find out what boat you charter, I would like to politely decline the trip ahead of time, no thanks madam or sir!
