By the lack of reports it seems no one is fishing the Severn. Thought about giving it a try in the Round Bay area this weekend for some perch. Anyone out there fishing the river?

Made a few casts last weekend and didn't even get a nibble. Doesn't seem like the Perch are in the shallow water areas of Round Bay yet. Have seen some nice bait around though and grass.

I fished today for a bit and only got one small white perch. Virtually nothing happening in my shallow water spots...but I did mark a good amount of bait on the finder. Saw a couple marks that almost looked like rock..?

There are rock out there. Heard about a couple caught yesterday while casting some shallows by a fellow club member.
He said they were good eats. The small ones usually are.
Before I get reported...that was meant to be funny. I said meant.
I caught one whitey yesterday an a Rapala.
Water still looks nasty.

Last Sat morning, as I was making a shakedown run in my new boat, I motored up the Severn. At one point, near Round Bay, a foot-long silvery fish leaped clear of the water about 50 yds away. It had the general appearance of a bluefish. I did not have any fishing gear with me so I cannot make a positive ID.

Were you in RB proper or in a creek? That could have also been a carp, as they've been making quite a ruckus lately as they finish up their spawn.

As Greg said, the water does look nasty. It has a brown algae bloom, which is not nice for the river, but the visibility is still relatively good--just over 40" on my Secchi disk yesterday. Grass is coming slowly, water still cool (67-70 F.).
The 40' hole between Sherwood Forest & the Aisquith Reef has hypoxic (low DO) water at the bottom, though it isn't dead yet. We marked a lot of both bait and larger fish on the shoulder of the reef in 15-25' of water.
Couldn't get 'em to bite, but I'll own up to Greg's report about the two shallow water fish. They were about 17" & 19", stocky fish, both in 4-6' of water in a creek mouth on rising water, on a 1/4-oz. X-Rap., worked stop-and-go. The smaller fish had at least one more rock swimming with it. Hope to find that there's a pattern there.

Yep, that's where I marked most of the stuff as well. Right around the 20 to 25'...bait, some marks that looked like perch, and some Striper lookin' marks.
I did see a couple guys intently fishing around the island in RB. I didn't see them catch anything, but they didn't seem to be hunting like I was...!

I was in the main river just downstream from where Round Bay widens out. It was not far from John Page's house.

Tried again last night and missed a Pickeral plus saw a few Pumpkinseed showing up. Lots of really nice vertical grass in a couple of spots, but it is hard to fish.
