Need to change the prop on my old boat and was wondering what are the advantages of switching to a stainless prop vs a aluminum prop ?

Stainless has less flex (better performance), harder to damage, more costly to buy. Not sure if the are easier (cheaper) to fix than aluminum.

With a stainless prop you are swinging more mass and they definately hold RPM's better. If you hit something with an aluminum prop you might break it. If you have a stainless prop and you hit something hard you could damage the lower unit instead of the prop. Most guys that do a lot of ocean fishing or high performance runs use stainless.

Thanks for the info just put the aluminum one back on, can buy four of them for the price of one stainless. So I brought a second for a spare as I use a 16X13 and no one seems to stock them.

I ended up doing the same. My boat was a little overpropped, (ran over 5500 rpm @ WOT, and too fast at idle for trolling); Bay Propellor fixed me up with a one that gives me better hole shot, and gas mileage. I keep the other as a spare
