I was going to announce this at the last club meeting but had a nasty head cold thought that you guys would appreciate me not sharing it with you.

Help improve the local water quality. Do something positive. . . . Help re-establish the SAV beds in Poquoson's Rivers.

Good thing that last weekend was canceled as the weather was just terrible. . . . This weekend WILL be much better

Low tide at Messick Point is going to be at 2:33 in the afternoon on Saturday. Predicted Level -0.1 Ft. Weather underground is calling for light southeast winds, 79 degrees and Sunny with a 20% chance of Thunderstorms. Water temperatures are still a little chilly at 67d,

Dr. Orth will be meeting with some of us on Friday afternoon for training and a final checkout of the conditions of the grass shoots. So we will be ready for Saturday afternoon.

So here is the plan.

Meet at 12:30 at Messick Point boat ramp. We already have at least two boats for ferrying folks across the river and could use one or two more. Please send me an email or call me if you can help with this.

We collect grass shoots for two or three hours or until we run out of bags to store them in.

Wear water shoes, tennis shoes, etc. as crabs pinch bare feet pretty well if you step on them and oyster shells will give you nasty cuts. If you have a wet suit, mask and snorkel bring them along as some of the better shoots will be in 3 feet of water. Of course wear your sunscreen, hat and sunglasses. A towel would be handy for those that think that you might be snorkeling or getting pretty wet.

We will be working the sandbar just upriver from the island at Factory Point, if folks want to take a quick break we can run them across and they can hike around and check out the birds or hang out on the beach with the "tourists".

If some folks need to leave early we can run them back to Messick Point and drop them off at the boat ramp.

Please let me know if you intend on showing up so that we can finalize our plans for the boats.

PS I found a place in Norfolk that will rent a full wet suit with a hood and boots for $26. I plan on going over on Friday evening to pick mine up. If you are interested in joining me for the ride or need details let me know.

One minor change in the program. We will be on the grass bed just south of the island as it has better seed pods.
