Have to spend some quality time with the wife this wkend and she has been pestering me about heading down to Sandbridge. Question is this. Where can I go that isn't too damn crowded and what can I expect to catch. I can normally get some pretty nice baits in the cast net before I go so what should I fish for and can I bring the dog?

1) Dog has to be on a leash this time of year, so leave em at home! I wish I could bring mine as well!

2) You got your choice of 3 main places:

A) Little Island Pier - Most likely crowded on the weekend with plenty of tourons.

B) South of the Pier on the Beach - Park in the lot at Little Island Park and walk over the last dune trail and then down the beach. You can only fish down to the right of the pier. While you can fish there, you still may encounter kayakers, surfers and a few swimmers, but usually the futher you walk down to the right the better off you are.

C) Back Bay - go past the park and go another 1/2 mile and you will come to the gate of Back Bay. Pay $5 for a day pass or $15 for a Duck Stamp (Full Year Pass) and go the the parking lot another mile or so down the road. Unpack and then hoof it over the dunes in one of three places. A first main walkover by the gate to the beach , first dune walkover down the boardwalk or the second walkover. A isolated beach with very few will await you there! [wink] A few priveledge people have vehicle access, but that's another rant for later!!!

If it were me, and you want to get away from everyone hit Back Bay! Take the main first walkover and then walk down the beach to find your hole you want to fish in!!! Plenty of sandfleas in the wash for bait if needed!

As far as your catches; Spot, Croaker, Blues, Roundhead, Pups and the occasional small flounder. I've seen some spanish lately past the second bar jumping, but they have never got close enough yet to get. Of course you always have a shot at some biters, and a cobia with big baits. Most likely you will have to sort through the ever present Skate and Rays with your big baits!!!

If ya got a SW or W wind, bring the bug spray as the biting flies will wear you out on those winds if ya ain't careful!!!

Let us know how you do and you may just see myself and a few others out there as well!!!!
