My family and I are coming down in a few weeks to stay at Cudjoe Key. Last year we had a blast live-lining grunts for blacktips and lemons. We didn't keep any but given all the reports about sharks being plentiful in the Keys, we were thinking of trying some shark steaks this year? What are the best eating, blacktip, lemon, nurse? Do they have to be bled right away? Thanks

After spending a month on Big Pine last winter, I found out the blacktips were supposed to be the best table fare....Did not try any though, and I heard that bleeding is not necessary....We ate wahoo and mahi, should have tried the blacktip though...Good Luck, Have Fun, Cujo

If we try some blacktip or other species, I will let you know how they rate.

After recommendations from the locals, I have come to the conclusion that nurse shark is pretty tasty!

FWIW, I tried bull shark. Yeeettch! About highest mercury content of all too.
Mako is great. Haven't tried it, but black tip are supposed to be good also.

Shark spoils quickly, so get on ice soon. Remove the skin as soon as possible too.

One more thing... Don't forget your Federal HMS permit and the limit for most is 54".
