I have 40+ gal. of treated fuel that is 8 months old in my aux. tank. Swithced to it to burn and the motors died. Switched back and everything is OK. Suspect ethanol has seperated. Need a name of a qualified person in the Coles Point area to pump out bad stuff. Anybody have any contacts? Thanks, B.

There was a guy around last year. I believe the business is near Callao, I will see if I can dig something up.

Barry when you say "treated" is it treated with Startron? It says and I have heard that it WILL treat bad gas. Just a thought to save the $100 worth of fuel.

Also, do you have a water separator filter, the type with the glass bowl on bottom that allows you to see and drain out water?

If the fuel has actually phase separated there is no fix.

That's not what Startron promises

I was wrong they are Deltaville not Callao. I understand they will pump it out, clean it, clean the tank and then put it back in.

Thanks guys, thats a big help. Note: last fall I did treat it with Startron. I have a clear filter on each motor and the canister type as well. When I did switch back to the main tank it ran great with out changing / cleaning the filters for over an hour. Therefore I assume it has seperated. I just talked to the "Kleenfuel" company out of Deltaville. He agreeded the fuel has probably seperated. Their fee is $75 per hour with a 3 hour min. He said my job will probable be a 3 hour job. Additionally they charge $2.50 per gallon disposal fee. My cost should be $325- $350. Ouch. Pay to put it in and pay to take it out. My neighbor had the same problem last weekend. His wouldn't start period. My question now is do I keep a full treated tank next winter or keep it near empty?????? Signed confused in Coles Point.

Barry, you should be ok to store a tank full of non-eth gas over the winter if you treat it with double the normal amount. So far that's what I have done for the last nine years with no problems. There ought to be a non-eth source near you somewhere.

Barry- I've been told that a gasolene pumpout situation like yours may be covered by boat insurance policy. While this does not seem logical to me, it may be worth checking out.

I fix the problem by driving my boat all winter

I swear by the new green Stabil. It is designed for ethanol and i put it in everything this past winter

8 months is not really too long for treated fuel. If it really was stale fuel - I do not think the motors would start back up easily due to sour fuel trapped in the common hose or clogging the internal filters.

Try one motor at the dock on the aux. tank. If it starts to putter - try removing the fill/vent cap.

FWIW: At one of the Grady meetings - Ed Miller recomended running the aux. out and just leaving it dry to avoid having fuel sit too long. I carry 150 in the main and 52 in the aux. My aux. tank has been empty for 2 years now. I miss having a seperate fuel source if the main ever gives me trouble.

Good luck with it. Might be cheaper to just siphon it off and give it to friends for lawn equipment.

Thanks guys!!! Much appreciated. Thought about that Skip. Problem is the generator runs off the aux. and the boat runs better off the main. May try to pipe the generator to the main. Richard, I'll check that out. Thanks again.

How about buying all your gas from marinas that have 100% gas (no ethanol)?

Such as Coles Point Marina, or the Coan River Marina?

Or like a previous poster said, run your boat a least twice a month (every two weeks) to keep the ethanol mixed.

My old fuel was Coles Point marina before they switched this spring. Good to go now.

Just got a call from the tank guy. Removed 28 gal. of fuel. He said there was more alcohol and water than gas. He said this was bad but not as bad as some. Learned my lesson.

Use PRI G fuel treatment. It has been used commercially for years and more recently made available for recreational boating use. I combined 10-15gals of MTBE with 30 gals of Ethanol in December 2008. Dosed heavy with PRI G. Have run just about all of the combined fuel out this spring over a period of 2 months and not a hiccup...fortunately GI boatel is back to non eth fuel. I learned about PRI G on the hull truth. Good stuff.
