srman, I live in Williamsburg and fish alot out in the chic. If you want to go for bass you will need to head in the creeks and fish the points. Bass fishin can be tough out there, but if i were you and you just want to go out and have a good time, achor anywhere out in the channel with nitecrawlers of chicken gizzards and you can slay the catfish. If you wanna go for the big cats, take a cast net out to the small fishin pier over by the bridge (you will see it) and cast in the lights. you will catch all sorts of shad and bunker. its the best bait right now for big cats. I went out last friday and caught a 41 ounder followed by 21,14,10, and a bunch of dinks. Good Luck!!

Sounds like you'll be close to Morris Creek, the Chickohominy WMA. One of my favorite rivers/creeks to fish for bass and alot of gar at times.

Definitely shoot across from the campground to Morris Creek. Bass fishing on the Chickahominy is so much better than the James right now in my opinion.
Spinnerbaits & texas rigged worms work well on the wooded shorelines in Morris Creek. Chick fish tend to relate closely to wood cover.
Also, if you feel like a change, take some squid and go out to the mouth of the Chick River where it dumps into the James, you'll probably catch some croakers.
