Fished in Machodoc Creek last night and caught about 35 croakers in about two hours - steady hot action. Started with two rods and it was just too much action to manage... went back to one immediately. Kept a dozen or so very nice ones ....1-2#s+. They are here very close to shore and the fishing is hot at sunset and after dark. Squid and shrimp! Some excellent eating ahead! My wife has a lot of fish to clean.... not! Ha! Tight lines, Kris

What size do you keep the croaker. I would imagine nothing under 10 inches?

There were a few spots and white perch mixed in. 10" is about the smallest croaker...

The Lower Machodoc is the place. The bottom must be literally paved with Croaker - in between stroms the last two evenings there has been a repeat equal to my first night's action. I expect that the Croakers will hang in there until the water warms as in previous years. You've got to dodge the crabpots, so if you are traveling at dusk or dark when they bite best, have a good spotlight!
