Got there bright and early and the pick was slow to start. Wind blowing out of the south kept pushing us a little too far from the pilings.

Finally, around 11AM, wind died a little, tide and the shadow of the Tower came to us and the bite was on. Got our 3 man limit with largest being almost 8 lbs, Lost maybe 4-5 being too aggressive.

Trick was fishing in the shadows.

Fishing was great until a group of snorkelers came and drove the fish to the depths.

One last point - a team shows up with a beautiful 28' yellow hull Scout with twins on the stern. Damned if they didn't try to sneak in between 2 boats, get hooked up on everyone anchors, pulled my anchor free , stop 3 boats from fishing as they maneuvered over drifting lines, blah, blah, blah.....SO CLOSE TO US WE COULD HAVE HANDED EACH OTHER A BEER.

No one got mad but if you want the prime spot at the Tower, get the heck up at 4AM like we did and get there early. Oh yeah, they were also the snorkelers who swam between our boats scaring the fish away.

BUT - WE CAUGHT OUR LIMIT AND WERE HAPPY.

You are right about being in the right location and that "magic spot" yesterday. I got there yesterday and was unable to get into the "magic spot" and did not get the first fish all day. Nothing like getting up a 3 am and after cleaning and putting the boat away ending the day at 8 pm. I guess it was a good thing I did not have any fish to clean.

Good job on the spades, and WTG on the patience. You'd think the tower was the only spot on the planet for spades.

Let the games begin....

Cheers,
Walt

That's what kills me. Spades are all over the tower reef, not just the CLT. There is plenty of structure out there to anchor over.
