I have not picked up charts yets to figure how long of a run it is to offshore destiantions from where my non trailerable boat will be kept.

Can anybody tell how far of a run it is from the confluence of the James & Chickahominy River to The Cigar, Norlfork Canyon, 40 fathon curve, and other popular destinations?

From viewing SST charts it looks to be 90 miles to the 40 fathom curve from James-Chickahominy merge.

The Fingers (20f line) is approx. 45 miles from CH. The Canyon is approx 60 miles from CH. I know for me (from Little creek) it takes about an hour to get to the James River Bridge. I would bet you run will be longer than 90 miles...a lot more. I don't know where the James and Chick meet but your best bet is to bring your boat down to Hampton at a minimum and run from there.

What He Said....

You are 55 nm just to get to Cape Henry plus the distances he gave which are nautical too. So about 100 nm to the nearest fishing grounds.

okay so do I undertand this correctly it is 115nm to Norlfolk Canyon, 100 nm to 20f curve. Where I came from offshore fishing ment going a minumum of 90nm to the Norteast canyons ( Atlantis, block). Sometimes the eddy moved north closer in. It was a two day over-night trip or your had a go fast CC like I had. I do not want another Go fast boat , and do not want to trailer anymore. I live on the Chickahominy river and have my own dock. I'd rather two day trip it from my own backyard. I just want to make sure it was within reason to what I am used to.

Yank, I do a lot of overnighters myself. I depart from saltponds in Hampton. I agree, if we are going to spend the coin to get out, may as well make the most of it and spend the night offshore. Let me know if you plan to overnight and we can buddy boat. I am eyeballing this weekend to overnight offshore if the weather window holds.

Doing the 1st leg to Rudee one evening then headed off the next am isn't a bad deal either. Your boat wouldn't happen to be the Sportfish I see on the left when headed south on the Rt 5 Bridge is it?

We run my buddies ride from Deltaville to the Norfolk and I wanna say it's 95 - 100 miles / 83 - 86 nautical miles depending on where we sit down. Depending on where the temp break is it can obviously be a longer or shorter run. It's a long boat ride and mighty tough on the back pocket. However, his boat is comfortable and it is nice to be home when you get back. Not having to deal with traffic and driving home from OI or VB is a plus also. If we are only going to fish one day we generally leave Deltaville around one or two am. We take turns driving and sleeping. The crazy thing is on the run home when we hit the high rise we almost feel as thou were home. We do this occasionally and don't make it a habit, but if your already used to making those long runs and the fuel burn I say go for it!

Jfish I haven't purchasde the boat yet. Atfer fours years without a boat , and starting my second summer in Virginia I am really getting the itch. I'm just trying to get all my facts together before deciding what boat to purchase.

I'm up the Chickahominy River about five miles in a neighborhoof called Chickahominy Haven.

Jeezzzz.

That's too far to ride to go fishing. Lotsa gas too. Some of your roughest water (slowest riding) could be in the bay and the James.
