Ok, I hope I don't sound too much like an idiot here. But I was wondering what licenses I would need if I am just trying to recreationally crab from a Jon Boat? Also, can I use traps or run a line or am I restricted to dip netting? I know they spell all of this out on DNR website but it is not very clear to me. Thanks for the help...

You can buy a recreational crabbing license from DNR website or any licensing agent.
The crabbing license allows you to crab 1200' of trotline, and/or 30 collapsible traps. If only you are in the boat, you are allowed 1 bushel of Male crabs measuring 5 inches from tip to tip on the back shell. after 7/15 the size increases to 5 1/4"s. No Females are allowed to be kept at all by recreational crabbers.
If you have another recreationally licensed crabber on board, you may keep 2 bushels of males. However two bushels is the limit per boat, even if you have 5 licensed crabbers on board.
They also sell a crabbing boat sticker which would cover anyone on board, but the same limits would apply. 1 person on board = 1 bushel, 2 or more people on board = 2 bushels.
Hope that helps!
