I got a call about 1pm from Billy (Striper_On) to fish with him and Capt. Kevin (surfperch1).

We met at Crab Creek and headed out into the Bay in search of Cobia. We checked all the marker buoys with no luck. We found a tide line out in the Bay Oceanside and slowly followed it for several miles towards the CBBT.

It was full of life. Bait fish of all types, Blues, Turtles, Etc; It also had HUGE Trigger fish in it.

We tossed a Gulp Crab at them with no luck. We did spot one big Cobia cruising by but by the time we turned the boat around he was gone. We had a couple of smaller ones cruise by a few minutes later. We then made it over to the Bay side of the CBBT.

There were many boats there on the prowl. Ben cruised up and as we were bullcrapping Kevin spotted a couple of Cobia coming right at us. The fish came in between the boats which were about 10ft apart. Kevin and Ben both cast out Eels and the bigger of the two Cobia hit Ben's bait.

Ben had a charter on board and he was thrilled. The fish was going to to be his first citation if he landed it. He did ! Nice job JP.

Well we kept cruising around and ran into 1 more Cobia but he would not take the bait.

So no Cobia for us today but it was an OUTSTANDING day on the water. The weather was perfect and the seas were calm and the Bud was cold.:))

Didn't think you could hand off a rod, boat a fish , and claim a citation for that fish?I believe the angler is the only one allowed to control the rod, make the cast etc. Nice catch anyways! Ben has definately got the eagle eyes but the angler needs to do the rest if they want the paper not just the meat!Like the tower, sweeeeet!!!

If it is just handed off it is okay for a citation. I was told this by someone on the committee. That is how all the off shore charter boats work, the mate grabs rod first then hands it off.

if someone can't see the fish, make the cast, set the hook, and fight it to the boat by themselves should it be a citation? As far as Offshore i think thats a little different if you are trolling a spread, the fish hits and hooks themselves the mate transfers the rod from the holder to the fighting chair or belt which doesn't really have the same effect on the catch.Sighting the fish, casting to it to make a good presentation, and hook set is probably the hardest part and most skillfull part, anybody with two arms can fight the fish. I need to check out the regs on this or if anyone out their has the answer...

Keith chill out dude. You got a stud fish. My congratulations go out to you. If a charter wants to cast to a fish then by all means climb up in the tower with me. Im sure the world has seen me with 5 people in my tower by now. Tell me of 1 charter boat either inshore or offshore who will not register a citation for a fish that has been handed off from hook up to landed. Not causing a pi$$ing match at all but this is out of line. I have been bashed 2 times within the last week over stupid minor stuff and it is quite ridiculous.

BTW I caught fish number 57 today for the year. 43 of those in less than a week.

Not tryin to bash you dude! Just seems wrong to get a citation for a fish that was hooked by someone else. You're definately on with the cobes with those numbers i'm so impressed!I can't answer your question on the charters as i don't ever charter around here as i just fish off my boat. To each their own i guess.Sorry if you feel its out of line or ridiculous, just my thoughts on the citation part of it.I try to be an ethical sportsman out there and fish hard to achieve the citations that i have.I don't fish strictly chasing paper, i just love to fish and be on the water, those are bonuses! good luck and yeah that cobia was a STUD!!!
