So I've been crabbing on kent island for countless years now and this summer got a commercial crabbing liscense from a relative for the summer. Other than selling cooked crabs to relatives and fellow community members, can someone point me in the right direction to sell crabs raw off the boat to a processing plant or restaurant?

Thanks,
Logan

I think that is something you will have to take up with the restaurants, what if you just started out selling on the street? Down my way I have seen street sellers do just as good as soon as you become heard of, and all that takes is good prices and live crabs!

You may want to reconsider selling cooked crabs. Real liability issues for a small time operation.

LCC commercial license does not allow you to sell cooked seafood to the best of my knowledge. You do get the right to sell seafood but not cooked as far as I am aware.

Plus you will need a County Health Dept License

I'm not sure that allows you to sell fresh fish and oysters or Not.
I know we pay the $10 Sure Charge for Seafood. I've never tried to sell perch!

Fish is a whole different license..... the $10.00 seafood sur-charge is what I was talking about.

The $10 surcharge is for advertising purposes of Maryland seafood. Or at least that was the original intent when it was added.

You need a finfish license and the perch must have been caught by you. Otherwise you need a $150 seafood selling license.

Ask whoever you "apprenticed" with to help you with a market.

Wholesalers,
Harris Seafood on Kent Island, Clarks seafood in Chestertown,,PT Hambleton's seafood in Bozeman,,Schnaitman's at Wye landing, are some that you can try. there are others. I don't have the addresses or Phone #'s ,but they are easy to find in the local phone book or internet search.

for retailers,Reataurants & seafood stores, I usually sell on the Western Shore, better prices there,I find that for the first time I deal with a potential buyer, I will show up with my catch, so that they can see that the product they are getting is in good condition & culled correctly. many times I have shown up unanounced at a retailers location & introduced myself & shown them my catch.
I have never had anyone turn me down.

Good luck!!!

As far as selling cooked crabs,,local & state regulations prohibit me from doing this.
