In the Ridge Maryland and south area, Buzz's Marina is the best. Nothing against Drury's, et. al. but it just is. I can leave my keys on the dash, and car unlocked. The owners are knowledgable, friendly, flexible, and Mike is even a great fisherman. They give you good fishing information, have a up-to-date tackle shop, ice, chum, everything. They smile and say hello and it's real, they help you with a line if you want, even pull an occasional boat off a sand bar - whereas, at point lookout State Park the MP's look you over suspiciously, and on and on. They try and get in your face for a wiff of beer, I guess, then want to examine your boat.
But wiffy and I like to travel to the mountain state parks occasionally, and Point Lookout sells this yearly pass good for all State Parks. My mistake was I went down to the taxpayers beach at the park to cook a couple burgers (the employees there think they own it). While cooking and napping my 2009 $75 state park pass ( a laminated thing too big to put in wallet) was lifted off my dash. My car was locked, but windows cracked 2 in to keep heat down. Someone with a flexible reach and grap tool apparently plucked it off the dash. Called ranger with badge and gun, etc. and reported it. Then I went to main office, and despite the fact that they had the complete record of my purchase, with copy of my ID, and that I later furnished copy of the cancelled check, they insist on full price ($75 bucks) to replace it! It even has a serial number on it so if was being used by someone else, any heads up officer could identify. I'm puzzeled - when wallet was stolen MVA charged 5 bucks for replacement. DNR charged same for replacement boat registration. MD Park Service in Annopolis suggest I just write my pass registration number and hang that with name on the rear view mirror. Duh...anyone could come along and copy that through the windshield.
Anyhow, Pt. Lookout Park Director promised that the Director of MD Parks would call THE NEXT DAY and we could rememdy situation. She never called. So I called. They say 'she's in meetings', so I got someone else. who said they have this policy so I don't sell the pass to a friend? Huh? (Other states have stickers that attach to inside of vehicle window.) I find point lookout and all MD State Parks every inflexible. And their personnel arrogant and/talk down to you- I said I'll take it to the Governor if necessary, and I got the "so what" look. If you've been there lately, you'd be amazed at how much money (taxpayers) has been sunk into that "Public" park!
Again, I suggest Buzz'z Marina. Of course Buzz's had to work for their money, and the difference between "public servants" and private enterprise.
Constructive suggestions? Does Sec. DNR care? Probably does, just isn't aware of putting a sticker adhereing to inside window?
