:helpsmilie: Can anyone tell me of a good location to catch crabs from a pier? We live in Hanover, PA and have tried Fort Armistead, Fort Smallwood and John Downs Park (these were all last year). Do any of the marinas in that area allow "outsiders" to crab from their pier(s)? Thank you in advance for your input.

Baltimore Area? - Sorry I can't help....
However, ther is a public fishing pier at Matapeake on the Eastern Shore on Kent Island. Ive never been there myself, but I think people crab from it all the time.
There is a public Pier in North Beach, MD - decent crabbing, but you need traps or rings...too high to crab with string
There is a public Pier in Solomons Island, MD - Been there once, and I think you could catch a mess of crabs to eat.
There is a public pier in Deale, MD on Rte. 256 right next to Happy Harbour. I crab there in the evenings periodically to give my son something to do, without messing with launching the boat. Again, traps are better, but it can be done with strings and a long net.
Hope that helps. Sometimes, if you knock on a few doors in the watrefront communities, you will get someone to give you a permission slip as their "guest" to crab on the community piers.
Or you could advertise as a ho on this board, and get one of these fine gentleman to take you trotlining for a day. Ho's usually bring snacks, drinks, offer to help with gas. etc.. not as much ho'ing is needed for crabbing, but I made two real good friends on this board. I ho'ed with one, and one ho'ed with me. One still ho's with me all the time, and my boat is just as much his....BTW Fat Jimmy, we need new brakes on the trailer of "our" boat...:D
good luck!

I heard good things about the old Route 50 bridge in Cambridge, MD. Need to use traps because its about 10 to 15 feet above the water.
