Woke up yesturday morning and went to get the minnow trap out of the water. Get there and half my trap is gone and unfortunately half a trap doesn't hold minnows very well. Make a call and arrange for them to be bought on the way to the ramp and off we went. Left out of Wake around 0700 and headed out of the river towards 42 with my Father and friend Brandon from Richmond. Got across and tried drifting with conflicting wind and current. Made one long drift with nothing to show for it and the drift annoyed me so we left looking for other opertunities. Ran east to a lumpy bottom and at least found some good sized mullet that liked minnows, caught a few of them and then moved up to nasawadox reef marker and tried there for a bit with cut bait. Found some nice size croaker and my father managed a beast of an oyster toad and a baby sea bass that was so small it closely resembled the minnows we had in the live well. :D

Picked up and ran back into the river looking for something a little more exciting. Anchored up on some good strucuture ans began soaking cut bait and minnows. Caught some blues, rockfish, spot, croaker and flounder. Managed one keeper flatfish at 19.5 inches. Caught it on a chunk of bluefish with a splitshot drifting back over the bottom. The sirius weather showed a good size storm with lightning building around Urbana so we took that as our cue to head back to the ramp. Showed up just as some rather large raindrops began falling.

That sounds like as good a way as any to describe our day on the water! It was good having Brandon on the boat, even if he "won't hurt a fish" If we keep after him, we might bring him around and even if not he makes the day fun.
