In mid July my fiance' and I were planning a trip down to Kiptopeke for camping and fishing. We fished there last year with some success, but I just got my boat rigged with lights, so at least one night we were gonna head out after dark, anchor near the ships, and chum. Other than some trout, flounder and blues and perhaps stripers, would a night trip be worth the effort for a mid-summer cobia? What about sharks? Do they come in to the ships at night?
I know people fish for lots of species at night, and sometimes with better success than the day time. But it occurred to me that I have never heard anyone mentioning fishing for cobia at night. Do they bite at night and is it any better than during the day?

During a full moon when the crabs shed, you may see some nightime activity, particularly if you use crabs for bait.

Hammy a friend of mine gos there every summer two or three times. He fishes for drum and cobia at night and has caught them but its not as good as during the day. He just got back from over there and due to the weather he did not get to fish as much as he wanted. He got out three times and I think once at night with no luck. I think you will catch a lot of sharks and rays at night that time of year but that is how it is anyway even when the cobia bite is hot and its during the day.But if it were me I would go for it what heck your right there . I like Latimer shoal in about 12 foot of water. or Just off the fish nets down from the ships. Good luck and dont forget your gaff like i did two weeks ago when i went to Oregon inlet . let us know how you do.

Virginia may have different rules ..... But Maryland has restrictions on rockfish in possession after midnight...or something like that.
