plan on spending 1000+. if I paid retail, my regulator setup alone would be over a grand. find a good local shop and work with them, there are 4 in my area, but 1 has treated me right and I continue to business with them. they give me great deals, and are a good bunch of folks, other places will not budge on price, and have stuck up employees. I noticed my high pressure hose, had a few nicks, and a cut in it. they replaced it for free, I had my regs overhauled and since I bought my gear there they gave me 50 bucks in parts free, I never filed the warrenty forms. once you get into it, you are stuck, I would much rather shoot a fish, than get one hook and line

You don't need expensive guns and you don't need expensive gear to nail fish but it sure helps. Get your "card" first so you would have more options when you get to a hunting site and after you get your card pratice and practice with your new gear then practice some more with your gun some small fish in a shallow site.
Enjoy the diving so you can enjoy the hunt.

Frankly, I prefer free-diving (snorkel) to tanks USUALLY, although it's nice to strap them on sometimes.
Mask, fins, snorkel, and a basic spear...even a 'Hawaiian sling' or pole spear will be fine for most fish around here.

I would too, Erik - since I've started spearfishing I don't enjoy fishing with rod & reel nearly as much, but that's not a bad thing for me. Except fly fishing in the salt - That can be fun, too.

Racn35,
After you get done rubbing it in, could we get an after action report on the fishing or diving?
JKC - anytime, but I'm not that experienced yet :}}

strictly artifact dives in that area. I've dove the rr bridge and the bottom of green st. in havre de grace. The bottom of Green st. used to be the town dump way back when. I've picked up a couple of inkwells bottle and an lod brass lamp. Some of my buddies have dove the old steamship docks and down by the lighthouse. Supposedly there is an old "popeye" anchor somwhere off green st.

I plan to dive on the 29th, as I have an airline ticket to Barbados on that day and can probably be in the water by the afternoon.[excited] Good luck to you who go local.
