has any1 ever used this reel & how was its performance for deep bottom fishing for seabass, tilefish etc....:confused:

for seabass and tilefish, that thing is going to be awfully heavy (most likely well over 30oz.) and an overkill with a slow retrieve ratio (4.25:1). if you are going for grouper and goldens it will work but will be a lot more work cranking back up. for that type of money, i would at least have a 5.0:1 ratio and you will still be looking at the other people on the boat asking why does it take me so much longer to reel up. for my deep dropping i use a tyrnos16 but probably only need a 12 and it is much slower than a trinidad or tyrnos, but much less expensive. the saltist 50 or torium 16/20/30/50 area good reels but i would go with the 6:0:1 vs the 6.4:1 high speed on the saltist so you have more torque. I just think you will be much happier for the species that you suggeested with a higher retrieve ratio. will it work yes and people have been using the 3/0,4/0,6/0 high speed series reel for years, but there are better performing reels on the market for less and a little more. Daiwa Saltist 50 is a GREAT reel.
