Left OC 5:30am with CC & Ted as crew headed for the 895 line. Fun ride out over rollers with no back side, heard my prop slip a few times :eek2: Put lines in 66 degree water and 120 fathoms. Got the sunk out on the boat in the first 5 minutes of trolling with a 25lb yft. We worked our way down to the north corner of the Washington and water temp crept up to 67.5 and fish there for the rest of the day and picked up 4 more yft one 50 lbs and the others sub-legal and also added 2 gaffers to the box. We had our harts broken after a long battle from a flat line bite; had the fish to the boat several times just to see it sound again, 17 lbs of drag didn't seem to tire him out. CC finally gave out and handed the rod to Ted and he was able to get the wind-on on the reel, but the fish was still 10 feet away, boy wish I had a harpoon:wacko:. Fish sounded again and Ted cranked him up again, just to have him sound again, but this time I push the drag up a bit and the line popped. Talk about feeling really low, 80 lb flouro broke just above the crimp. Seas and winds were building so at 3pm we decided to troll back to the 50 fathom line hoping for flatter seas and of course yet another wahoo clips me clean, I'm 0-4 on wahoos in the past 48 hours of fishing, time to put out some wire. Had a not so bad ride in at 24 knt.
Tony - sounds like you had a little bit better day than we did. Was that an "Eye" that broke off? I keep hoping to get one, but not yet for my boat. I'm wondering if you have found wahoos in sub-70 degree water. A couple of boats from my marina have hooked small (under 90 lbs) mako out there on the troll. They might be your bite-off problem this time of year, but I can't wait until the hoos move in. They saved our season last year in absence of yfts. Last week at the Parking Lot, we picked up lots of tooth marks on our yellow Z-wing down rigger, and I suspect makos (but maybe Hoos?).

Van,
Would not of expected to see wahoo in 67 degree water either, on Thursday we had 3 lines go down together and one stay tight for long enough to watch 100 yards of line disappear in a blink of an eye. Would not expect to get a triple header on makos:eek2: The bite off yesterday was a single bite and didn't even take drag, just popped it out of the clip and cut me off, very easily could have been a mako.
My suspicion was that it was a Big Eye, I estimate that it was close to 60 inches, but keep in mind it never got closer than 10 feet away. CC caught a 110 lb bft on my boat before and thought this was much more fish.
Tony - a triple bite off including a screamer does not sound like blue fish or mako. I"m hoping for an early and all-summer-long hoo bite. I'm getting out my Wahoo Kings and Black Bart wahoo lures to troll while I'm on the move!

Congats on a good day:thumbup: What size regulator do you run? We had a center console tuck up behind us on the way out yesterday. We did about the same thing but made a turn to the 461 lump

Yea that was me...thought we could make better time with you knocking the seas down a bit. Thanks for having the same starting point in mind as I did  I have a 23 Reg.

My crew felt for you guys.. We would come off a big wave and look back and see your prop:eek:Helped pass time. There were some big swells. We ended up with 6 yft kept 2 one 48lbs and one just just 28 inch. I had a fish dam near spool me last week in the same area. I dont know about you but I cant wait to do it again. Some good fishin rite now.

Glad we could be a source of entertainment, and thank god for 24 degree dead rise. Fished 3 times this past week and it was about as good as it gets. My boat is topped off with 184 gallons and still plenty of packs of bait masters in the freezer, weather gods permitting and work, I'll be out soon. Last year I had to run to the Spencer and Lindy to find fish. My crew much prefers the 55-60 mile runs compared to 90-110 mile runs of last year.

Pretty work Tony & Larry. WTG!! Crap, I was tired when I posted this. I got this mixed with your 1st trip on the limit with Larry. Man that sucks about breaking off the Eye. Glad your still on them up there. Sounds like you landed in the right place both trips Tony. Great fishing by anyones standards but even more exceptional concidering the boat size & distance you travel to get to the bite. Glad to hear your sounder is getting dialed in.

Hey Howard,
If memory serves me, you slept the whole way out in the bean bag:yes:. You did wake up in time to have baits ready to go in the water when we arrived:thumbup:. John got skunked yesterday and said the radio chatter was not all that encouraging. Hope the yft were just taking a break and not on the move.
