Tried to crab behind my house on 7/3. On the water at 5am and damn near every inch of shore line was already covered by one of many chicken neckers that decided to try their luck for the holiday weekend. First guy I encounter has dropped his weight in 17 feet of water and ran his line from 17 to 2 feet of water depth. In doing so he cuts a large section of prime river front in half, so no one can work around him. I drive up to him and point out to him that 3/4 of his line is in thick grass. He says how do you know. I respond by asking him if he has a depth finder. He says no, why is that important. Hard to believe but it only got worse from here.
I have come to realize that it is too much trouble to even try to crab around the 7/4 holiday. Way too crowded with many good intended people who are dropping lines for the 1st time in a long time.
