IN late may I will be heading down to do some fishing out of Oregon Inlet. Id like to take a shot at cobia and I am used to fishing for them in the chesapeake bay, but I understand that fishing for cobia out of Oregon Inlet and Hatteras is totally different. Any advice on rigs, lures, rods, locations would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You need some 3 ounce bright colored bucktails and/or feather jigs to toss at cruising fish for sure. Sight casting is the prfered method.

find 68 degree or higher water.you can chum for them but in May it and early June you need to cover a lot of water cruising and looking.3 to 5 ounce bucktail add a strip of FRESH squid a 3 to 5 oz. bucktail and a 4 inch MR.Twister tail.Find tide lines, turtles, rays, temp breaks as they will be cruising up top pr following some sea life.A dozen or so live baits in a livewell helps for those picky fish.sunny halfway calm days are better as you can see them better.A tower on your boat is best to change the angle of the sun.Polarized glasses a must.Look for them to be pushing water also.Good cast way out in front of them to keep from spooking them.If you land on their head they will spook.Hope this helps ya.
