Hey all, i was hoping someone could give me some advice on a mid grade surf rod/reel preference for Waves area surf fishing. Heading down toward beginning of Sept. and only have St. Croix boat rods at the moment. It has been a long time since i surf fished. Last time was in the early 80's using mirror lures for the blue fish blitzes or fishing the lighthouse for stripers. I've heard seom positives on Tica's but know little about them. Any advice is appreciated. Also, anyone know if crabbing is good that time of year? Boat rentals in the Waves area? Never vacationed there only Avon.
Thanks!

Tica or a St Croix Premier rod are good rods for the $. Match either with a penn 750SSm and you will be set.

Tica rods are a great buy for the money. I have a 10' with a Sealine 30 baitcaster. The rod can throw 2 to 8 ozs. If you want a spinning reel, Pen 6500 ss is a good match. If you want a 12' rod, Penn has a 7500ss.

Great thanks for the advice. I've seen some talk of the Tsunami and Daiwa Sealine as ok mid level surf rods as well. Anyone here use them?

I have a Tsunami ariwave "boat rod" and it's held up very well to some BIG fish and appears to be well made.
