Hey guys, just wanted to check back in after I posted a couple of weeks ago looking for advice for the Westmoreland State Park area. I wanted to get online for some more good info while I was down there, but couldn't get a decent linkup. Anyway, this is what we found on the Potomac mostly from Westmoreland State Park down to Nomini Bay.
Croakers and Spot were decent all week long. Every time we went out we caught 6-10 good fish. Not as many as our previous trips, but they were much bigger. The croaker we caught were mostly in the 9-13 inch range. Good pan-fry sized spot and a few (what I would consider) large perch. Everything we caught there was on earthworms. My two-year-old daughter had the most fun hunting for the bait. One of our crew caught a 20" Rock on a 4" grub just off the cliffs from fossil beach there, but we didn't have any luck coaxing any more out.
Thursday the 16th we launched out of Lewisetta with high hopes for catching some blues. We'd heard reports of people catching their 50 fish limit and got all excited. Headed out to the #7 buoy and headed north with our chum line, nothing. So we headed for shallow water to try and find some spot or croaker, caught a few, but nothing to write home about. Then towards the middle of the day we headed back to where we'd found a rip earlier and put out another chum line. I managed to land a 16" blue using live spot, but that was all we saw.
All in all, it wasn't a bad week, but I still haven't caught my monster yet. We'll just have to keep lookin'.
