Well the time has come and the Rec & Charter fishing takes a blow. NOAA Fisheries has decided that you can only take 3 Tilefish per person per day to include a Golden and/or a Snowy Grouper. Yep you knew it was coming and it has.

Perfect, let the comms scrape up all the 15"Goldens as they want, so they can land at the fish markets for $4.99 pp.

Kevin, isn't that for just the South Atlantic region? at least for now..

That sucks. Even though we usually limit ourselves to that number, or fewer anyway; it is painfull to watch the increase in comm tilefish activity. They will probably be wiped out in a few years, again...

Brian we are part of the South Atlantic if I remember correctly. It goes up to Delaware.

Virginia is still part of the mid-atlantic council so these new regs do not apply to us. This may change as there is a movement for the mid-atlantic to adopt to the same regs as the south council as they are trying to argue the single stock theory.

We are part of the Mid-Atlantic. The whole idea of our new landing/reporting process for Grouper and Tilefish was adopted so we could manage our own fishery through the mid-atlantic NOT the Southern region. Our regulations will remain the same until the mid-atlantic decides otherwise.
Hopefully everyone is reporting their catches and turning the carcass' over to CQFE (Center foir Quantitive Fisheries Ecology) for studies on both species. This will provide Scientific data for the next debate we all know will come sooner or later. I have turned over several Tiles and Grouper in the last month to the program and in talking with Joey Ballenger it looks pretty good for the program as far as recieving some funds from the saltwater fishing license monies to help support the studies. ALL DEEP DROPPERS should be participating in this study!!!!! There is very little information on these species so we either help out or they will use our pictures off the internet for their SCIENCE! Notice I have not posted any Grouper pictures lately!!

It's really easy to sit back and poke the commercial guys in the eye, and they probably deserve it some of the time, just like recreationals do at other times. In this instance the commercial golden tile fishery was shut down last month. And a good price for grouper or tiles is usually $2 per pound.
