OC Chunking?

Just read another post which mentioned chunkning at the bone and wondered if many are switching or still trolling? I guess they might have been there last week when we were out but I am not too bright and probably didn't notice.

A mojority of the fleet is still trolling- i saw maybe 2 or 3 boats jigging or chunking last week.

It seemed like everyone was chunking at the Lumpy last friday. We ended up with one blft 93#, chunking friday at the lumpy. Some larger fish reported to 150#. I wasn't out Sat or Sun, but there are some chunk reports from the Lumpy then also. We are going out of OC Saturday and trying to decide whether to chunk or troll also. The current plan is to be prepared to do both.

After trolling all day last Sunday without a bite all around the bone, next time I go I'm just going to troll until I mark bait and fish and then switch to chunking. I think that may have been what I should have done last week. Heard chunkers were getting bites.

Have we heard from any of the people who actually chunked on the bone?

i know on Sunday the fish that came into OCFC by the charter fleet were caught trolling (mine was 161- pink and black sea witch/bally, probably half an 80w back). I think the key Sunday was to be there early- My bite was at 6:20 the Sea wolf was on their second fish by then. The Hard Head got bit while deploying their spread at 6 am- Capt Joe told me most of the boats around him continued getting hook ups until 7 am.

The fish that have come into OCFC this week, yellowfin, bluefin and even a few marlin, all from the bone, were all caught by trollers.

Just food for thought.

I will be trolling big lures at 8 to 9 knots in the deep all weekend in the Branch Kreppel Blue marlin tourney, so I look forward to everyones reports, as i am back to Tuna Fishing on Monday.

Thanks for the reports to Capt. Franky and all others and I hope the trolling continues to produce. Patrick has the boat out today and tomorrow trolling at first light and I will post his results later today. Once the chunking starts...well you know.
