The billfishing today was outstanding out of OI. The boats that went billfishing flew from four to eight flags apiece. Over sixty flags in the fleet. We had 5 whites and 3 sails. Hooked five whites at once and caught all 5 with four anglers. One boat had a double grand slam. For world class billfishing, now is the time.

now that is a great report.
WOW! I hopped over to the OIFC site to see if there were any pictures and WTF is going on? The 'lead' picture has the boat name photoshopped out. Somebody not playing nicey nicey?

they cover the names up because they don't want customers calling up and asking for specific boats that you see in the pics, they want to give every Capt the same opprotunity for bookings, I'd say the majority of the fleet are skilled enough that it doesn't really matter who you go with, they are all top notch.

Pote, that is standard procedure at OIFC. Bill does it in an effort to keep people from playing favorites. All the boats at OIFC are top notch fishermen and one days catch or even a hot streak doesent mean that boat is better. Many days (too many) the pictures you see arent the best catches but the ones that Bill got pictures of while he was out there. He is very busy with other tasks and cant always time things right to get all the best shots. Its in the best interest of the fleet and the general perception of who is the "best" is usually way off. All fishermen are subject to bad luck or wrong place wrong time, even the "best".
I gotcha. Makes sense as to why, just seems that the anglers would like to see their names in lights, ya know?

:helpsmilie:I'm down here at Pirate's Cove tonight (9:30pm on Tues) and I may be able to get my small boat out there tomorrow, weather permitting. I've got my standard tuna/mahi trollin' stuff: SeaWitches, Ilanders, ballyhoo, planer/spoon, spreaders, daisy chain, jet bird/green machine. What's a guy like me gotta do to latch onto one of those billfish tomorrow?

Kayak, ditch the tuna rigs. Pull small baits with small super sharp hooks (dink rigs) on tld's with light drag and one or two Illanders with a big hook and a horse hoo on a 50 or 80 plus teasers. DO NOT try to hook a white or sail on your big baits. Dont take your eyes off the spread. Drop back to the fish as he bites, put it in gear and crank. Only try a Blue one on your big baits and crank it away from any white or sail. This is the short version because i have to get to bed but it will work if you dont let the fish beat you to the pole. PM me later in the week for the long version (more details).

Man OI is something else. Just as one world class bite slows the next begins. Thanks for the great report Pete & congrats on your day. I see the Hatteras fleet is steady in them also so it looks great for more on the way + the weather is looking stable. We plan to break out the light tackle this Sat to give it a shot. Been seeing a few every weekend without targeting them but sounds like it's high time to make hay while the sun is shining. Double grand slam is insane!!:clapping2:
Good luck Tomorrow.:fishing2:

I thought it would be a week or to before it went off with the full moon coming up in early august. Maybe this is a sign of whats to come! Nice work to all. I guess this is what gets the mates blood flowing. Skillz
Looks like the billfishing was good up and down the line...

5 for 5 on whites is nasty. Nice work pete. Did you and Bo hook all them or did rodney get a couple? :D

If I had to guess I would bet the action is behind the tower. Just a guess but would make sense.

Pete could you please B-Mail me on how much the fish have moved in a day. This bite is exciting to hear about even stuck behind a office desk. Hope you got them again today. From the computer it sounds like it is about as good as it has ever been. You must be stoked & rigging like mad. That Blue caught along the tide line this past Sat had me pumped!:bigfish:

Sorry for the quickie report, had alot going on. The fish were way south yesterday, between the 200 and the 100. We saw 13, pulled one off 10 feet from the leader and had 4 that never bit. On the five banger, i hooked 2 bo hooked 2 and rodney got 1 on the short rigger. We were very lucky. This was our first time using circle hooks in an effort to prepare for ocean city and i liked the results. Today was much slower. We had a white and a sail, pulled off a sail and saw a blue that never bit. The boat that had the double slam yesterday had one sail today. Goes to show how much luck is involved. The top boat had 6 whites and 2 sails. They were dolphin fishing and followed the change up to the 400 and found them there by themselves. Talk about luck. Average today was two or three per boat. The hatteras area has been hot but all indications are that they are coming up the line quickly.

I guess the full moon in early July (really the lack of a moon now) will cause them to stick aroung until Aug full moon. Pirate's Cove Billfish tourney should be a good one.

Woo Hoo!!!
I can't wait to get down and fish Bill.
Of course I like to meat fish first and foremost but if the bills are there we might as well take advantage of them.
I may just have my cherry popped this weekend!
