I'm heading down on Wed to fish with Down East Charters for some red drum. How has the bite been?

I heard it's hit and miss right now. A little early.

I've heard of a few. If the fish are there, George will put you on them! You should ask him about coming to Harkers Island in October for some false albacore fishing. You'd likely enjoy that also!

wish I could show you the pictures of the ones we caught back on August 8. 12 hookups, 7 to the boat, 3 biggest 48", 49", 51"
all estimated over 50 lbs.

Fishes Core Sound area. We put out at the Ferry boat landing.
fished from 6pm till midnight. Storm blew in and sent us packing.

We had a great time in Oriental. We went out with Greg Voliva of Down East. We caught 15 total reds with 6 of those going 25-44 pounds. We could have caught a zillion smaller ones in one spot but we decided we wanted to concentrate on some bigger fish and left. We missed 3 other bigger fish during the day and lost a few slot limit size fish. A few of the citation size fish we caught on a light action rod/reel spooled with 15 lb test. It was a blast catching them on that rod. Most of the better action happened from around 2-4 pm.
George was fishing in the same general area as us and I believe he caught about the same number of fish. The day before George said that he jumped two tarpon.
I can't wait til next year when I'm down there again. I'll load the post the pics by next week.

The Red Drum bite during the end of July and Beginning of August in Va on the shoals along the CBBT was outstanding. Ended up one day with 6 fish 2 citations at 49'' and 48" went a couple other times and the total count was somewhere near 20. Excellent Fishing and man do they pull.
