Hello all, I'm new to the Northern Neck and by reading some of the threads on here, it sounds like all of you guys have a wealth of knowledge about the area. I'm really interested in catching stripers, or as I have learned since being here rockfish. I'll be fishing mostly out of the Westmoreland State Park ramp on a 19ft center console Stratos. Any information you guys could give me on some local spots or techniques would be appreciated. Like I said, I'm interested in rockfish, but am happy to catch whatever is biting. I would also like to learn a little about this stretch of the river from someone who knows it, so if anyone would ever want to go wet a line, I'll be more than happy to provide the boat and gas. Good fishing to everyone.

You are in a great spot for rockfish, especially spring and fall. Right now, spot, croaker and white perch are easiest to find. Look into the Northern Neck Anglers Club for specific info and meeting a lot of nice and knowledgeable fishermen.

Till October when striper opens back up in VA unless you you are fishing on the Potomac in which case I know some good spots near the 301 bridge - but in the meantime fish for flounder blues coraker, spot, trayt, and many others - not sure what is going on in your area but there are plenty of good fishermen on here that will help. Where do you put in ? Repost with that and you will see help occur.

Fished wednesday from westmoreland state park to the lumps off colonial beach. We averaged about 1 keeper for every 10 caught.
