Last week I worked to address the problem my 98' 21 CC Striper was having. The Evinrude 175 from the same year was acting sluggish at times, and I described it as "falling on her face". Just no power, but she seemed to idle fine. Cleaned out the servicable fuel filter, and looked for the water fuel separator. ( I bought this boat back in March of this year with only 207 hours on her). I will admit I should have looked for this before I ever put her in the water, but she ran so strong during my test drive. No water fuel separator to be found. On a recommendation of a member on this board I bought Overton'sŪ > Moeller Clear Site Water Separating Fuel Filter System w/Composite Head - Boating & Marine > Fuel Systems > Fuel Filters : Marine Fuel Tanks, Gas Tanks, Parts, Boat Fuel Accessories, Fuel Supplies (http://www.overtons.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?i=75846&pdesc=Moeller_Clear_Site_Water_Separating_Fuel_Fil ter_System_w/Composite_Head&cname=Fuel-Filters&aID=601R6&merchID=1009&r=view) , a Moeller Water Fuel separator with clear site glass. Easy install and we were able to see yesterday if the problem was an "easy fix" with a test drive. I added a bottle of SeaFoam and some fresh gas as while I have put 130 hours on my boat this season, she was sitting for 2 weeks with about 1/4 tank of fuel in the 106 gallon tank.

As I left KI things seemed better, then as RPMs increased the boat seemed to sluggishly respond. As soon as she reached about 3000 RPMs, she lost power and we were left only able to run about 1500 RPMs. She idled fine, but no throttle response. Figuring this would occur, I brought a safe container to recover what ever water fuel combination would come out of the newly installed water separator. Drained the filter and was astonished at the amount of water that came out. It looked like there was a 1 1/2 cups of water that came out. Screwed the drain closed agian, and off we went. She coughed one time tying to digest the water already in line, and jumped on plane and ran great the rest of the day. I will drain the site glass before the next time out and always add a conditioner from this day forward. I have been running boats a long time, and this was my first issue with water in fuel. To anyone else with similar symptoms, I would give the water fuel separator a look.

Thanks to the folks on here that suggested this product, and I am sure there will be more issues to come, but for now, I will enjoy the water.
