we go there around 5:30 am and not knowing the area checked the map and decided to go to the right when leaving the ramp, paddled and drifted for about 2 miles with some hits but kept missing them, short hit. i was using large shrimp with heads on and 1/2 oz wildeye jighead. after 2 hours the fish turned on, pulled in my first keeper a 17" flounder:clap: caught larger but not keepers. then the croakers started biting we picked up4 nice croakers and threw back the smaller ones. headed back around 1 against the wind and current thought my arms were going to fall off, took a hour to go 1.5 miles. saw something moving on the surface went to check it out and it was a croaker must have been about 16" before half was bitten off, still alive with a perfect bite clean in half, threw some metal around but no hits. probably go again when the weather and bugs cool down

Fishing should be heating up there the end of this month... some BIG flounder have been caught on the other side of Janes Island this year, all with striking distance of a yak

Hale is thier a way to port over to the front of the island. it/s a long way for an old guy to go around
Paddle straight thru from the launch. 2 miles or less. A few turns. look at the map next to the parking lot.

You have to pull your yak across about 10 yards of beach to the sound, then head west about a mile and a half, right before you hit the channel, that whole area is full of flounder.... if you go to google earth, the pic it shows at the ramp at Janes Island State Park was uploaded by me
Turn right before you reach the pier and follow the green trail.
You don't have to portage.
I've done it dozens of times.

sure you can take the trail to the right of pier...just trying to save him about a mile of paddling by pulling the yak 5 yards

thanks guys, we were thinking about going that way, it would have saved us about 6 miles in paddling. had our wheels with us but didn't know how far the pull was, or if it was marsh.
