All of the offshore fisherman in the area from Ocean City down to Hatteras on this board, where do you buy most of your offshore tackle, lures, rod/reels, etc? The reason I am asking is that none of the shops I have been to seem to have it all.

Alltackle or Ake have everything you will need.

HI - Frisco Rod and Gun

OI - TIs or Whale Bone

OC - All Tackle

These are the shops I like best.

Good Luck,

I like to try to support the local, small business owned shops first. Here in the Hampton Roads area, on the peninsula, I like Bishops. On the southside I like Princess Ann Distributing. On rare occasions, you may find me at BPS but not too often as I'd rather support the locally owned shops. If I can't find things there reasonably priced, then I turn to the internet, first Ebay, then other online shops looking for good prices. I am not really loyal to any particular online place, it's all about the price. I have not found any single place that carries every possible item you might need but I have found the little stores like Bishops carries more of the items I need here locally than the big stores like BPS which 99% of their stuff I don't need.

I use AKES Marine in Wesr OC Tryed ALLTackle once and the man behind the counter had something to say about me chunking and even had something to say about a Green Machine I was purchasing. I have used Sunset many times no problems. Inlet Bait and TAckle in Delaware has had some really good bait the last few times off shore. I tried to get to Bill's Sport Shop but I got stuck in the parking lot towing the boat he is way in the back and it is hard to move around, so if the loot is full stop on the road. Being from Northern Delaware there is NO PLACE to get Tackle or Bait. I have to make a trip down to the beach just for a tackle run. Lets here what other people have to say.

Alltackle and TW's if you go to TW's in Nags Heads and can't find what you need, you probably don't need it, that one is huge,

I have used All Tackle, Sunset and Akes, but if I were to choose one place to spend my $ it would be Akes. They have what I need and they are a family run business that has served OC for over 35 years.

Doug is a fine person who has been battling serious health issues. His wife and daughter are currently running the store and doing a fine job.

85% of my business goes to Akes.

I am fairly new to the shops in O.C. but after visiting Sunset, Ake's, and Alltackle, I was the most impressed with Alltackle's selection and prices........ What I did'nt care much for was the seeminly lack of Offshore knowledge that the two younger guys behind the counter had........ie. what hooks to use for Ballyhoo, leader, ect.

Alltackle has a lot of stuff, but Ake has a bit of everything and they even stayed open for me last week one night to run over and get a 5 gallon bucket of oil. Good folks, good selection.

If you want the guy to help you....its a far drive from the ramp but bruce at capt. Mac's will bend over backwards for anyone interested in offshore fishing. My first trip had no idea what to buy, he made all the lines and tackle up for my that i still use today, great guy..

Late nite for ballyhoo...fishtales, they are 24 hours, you can leave at 3:30am and still get bait.

Wating of r royal farm to stock ballyhoo....

Here is my go to list in the order I use them for NC stores.

#1 best prices & has the good stuff for OI fishing. Most of what I use (Offshore only) found here. Etheridge fishing supply 252-473-6200. 83 Harbor rd,Wanchese NC.

#2 for sea witch tying supplies & the rest not found at #1. Whalebone Tackle 252-441-7413 Nags head causeway Nags Head NC.

#3 for some stuff not found at the first two mentioned above & overall selection. (lots more of the inshore/surf stuff). Tw's bait & tackle 252-441-5028 MP. 10.5 Nags Head NC

#4 When down in Hatteras, Frisco Rod & Gun is the best down there hands down IMO.

Has it all but you will pay a tad more for it unless your are a mate. To be expected at the end of the earth.;-)

VooDoo Tackle and Get Reel Lures - they can get you what ever you need. If they don't have it they will either make it or find it for you for at a cost that is lower usually than some of the other stores.

Tom,
All you have to do is go over to Pete's house he has rooms full of Tackle. Even I have not been able to get to his "Good Stuff" . I think he has different rooms for different target fish.

Watch out when you go in the Croaker Room he has bottom rigs hanging from the ceiling.
The Offshore Room has spreader bars you have to wade through like hippie curtains.
The Real Good Room he won't go in if there is someone in the house.

Let me know when you want me to come down and go through your stuff and help you dial in your spread.
