Hey everyone let me start by saying what a wealth of information I have got from this site. My brother inlaw gave me a 80 some model flare boat with a 90 hp yamaha. The floor was really soft and it was infested with wasps. My son and I went to the outer banks and he was fasinated by the custom made boats and said lets build a boat dad. I suggested we talk to my brother inlaw and see what he was going to do with his center console. Long story short we are going to practice on this boat before we build our custom sportfisher in my backyard  I will post pictures when i figure out how to. We have cut out the floor and removed all the foam and cut out the rotten stringers(bad design once the floor cracked the water got in and had no place to go we plan on changing that) What I have learned is never have the stringer directly on the hull because of pressure points. ok now for the questions

1. Has anyone ever redone a floor and just use resin to seal the plywood
2. Is the foam I took out a special foam and where can I get it
3. Do I need to put the foam back I think the boat would drain better without it
4. Would it be cheesy to put the floor back and cover it with indoor outdoor carpet instead of spending the money and time to fiberglass the whole deck
5.What is the best method to bed the stringers (foam, foam tape, fiberglass)

I will stop here now anyhelp is greatly appriciated. please forgive my spelling

Just using resin will not seal the plywood.

Just using resin will not seal the plywood.

My brother did that a few years back and just had to replace the floor...again!

the foam is probably a 2 or 4 pound density. I found the best knowledge and prices on that stuff is US Composites in florida. They are easy to work with and charge actual shipping so it's not too bad.

1. Has anyone ever redone a floor and just use resin to seal the plywood

Put at least one layer of 6 oz. cloth on the underside and two layers of 1708 or greater on the topside.

2. Is the foam I took out a special foam and where can I get it

2 or 4 lb. density as stated. Closed cell.

3. Do I need to put the foam back I think the boat would drain better without it

Not necessary, but it will deaden sound. Keep the foamed areas sealed from water intrusion (build in some bulkheads) and draining won't be an issue.

4. Would it be cheesy to put the floor back and cover it with indoor outdoor carpet instead of spending the money and time to fiberglass the whole deck

You can use the indoor/outdoor carpet to cover the floor instead of paint or gelcoat, but it needs glass.

5.What is the best method to bed the stringers (foam, foam tape, fiberglass)

Lay them down over some toothpics and tack them down w/ some 5 min epoxy or small pieces of glass. Then put down a fillet using resin/cabosil and put several layers of glass over the fillet.
