Ok, I want to invest in a thru hull transducer for my 24' CC boat. I have a Garmin 4208 and a Airmar P66 transome mount at the present time. But I want to be able to see the structure while I'm going from one point to another at 30 knots. I fish mainly in 50 - 400 feet of water here in FL.

What is the best thru hull transducer for the electronics I have?

Thanks In advance,

Mark

For a trailered boat you want an Airmar B164
AIRMAR Electronic Catalog (http://airmartechnology.com/airmar2005/ex20/RMProducts/ElectCat.asp?ProdID=37&Man=Garmin&PageNo=500)

I would agree with Seahunter and the B164 -1KW tilted. However, the B60 - 600W is a nice ducer and is a fraction of the cost as the B164. $200 vs. $650. I have the B60 and have been very happy with the performance.

Here is the B60 and B164 comparison from Airmar:

B60 - 600 W - Good Benchmark model for comparison

B164 - 1 kW - Better - 6 times more sensitive at 50 kHz - 2 times more sensitive at 200 kHz

There is no reason your P66 shouldn't read while running. I had one on my 21' Seacraft and it would read fine at WOT of 40-45 mph.

The P66 is an excellent transducer. Bass boats hold the bottom with transom mount
transducers at 60+ mph (mostly Lowrance & Humminbird).

I owned only one Garmin sonar, and it would never hold the bottom at speed.

My P66 was originally on a Garmin 188 and then on a Garmin 320 and it held bottom up to WOT of 45mph. I had to change it because the temp went haywire and I replaced it with another transducer (Model ?) that came in the box new with the 320. I am not sure which one it is but it doesn't seem to show detail as well as the 66 did, but it reads well up to WOT also.

I agree but the 4208 sounder is 1kW unit. The 1kW thru hull buys him fewer installations issues, better picture.
