3 of us are doing a suskie float on Saturday. Going from the damn to the boat ramp at Lapidum. Anyone wants to meet up with us we'll be starting at o-dark-thirty I imagine.

Does anyone know how the hell to understand the release/flow rates on the website that lists the dam's flow? What is too much?

More than 3 would be a crowd.

Make sure you guys bring needle nose pliars. You'll be unhookin catfish.Mashing the barbs would be a good idea if you get into alot of small stripers.you don't want to disfigure them while releasing them.

Hope you folks dont get in over your heads. Someone with some knoledge of water flow please help these guys out. Im not sure, but I dont think they let ALOT of water thru on the weekend unless they get lots of rain up north. Then they cant hold it back.

We did OK. caught smallies, a couple cats, couple small rock, and also white perch and sunnies. bucktales lost a real nice smallie, and the other guy and I each had big cats that we lost. flow was fine. nick, have you ever shortened that float by taking out somewhere north of lapidum?

A good spot to take out would be Rock Run at the steps. It's where the old mill is that you pass under going to & from the Dam to Lapidum.
The parking lot is at the top of the steps.I can carry my kayak up & down them by myself so 2 guys would be easy.Or you can pull out at Deer Creek, above rock run..I't's marked on the maps of the river I gave you guys last year.

Hello!
The night before you plan to go fish the Susquehanna, have paper and pen ready and call these numbers-888.457.4076 and 877.457.2525.
These generation hotlines contain the release information, in regards to how many small or large gates will be open, at what times, and the CFS count.
You'll want to write this information down, and take it with you.
Obviously, the more gates that are open will provide a higher CFS count.
Take note that they do say that these releases are subject to change, without notice.
The alarm that they sound at the Conowingo dam cannot be heard around the mouth of Deer Creek, so keep an eye on your watch.
Generally, it's safe to kayak when 1, 2 or 3 small gates are open, but when they are opened in combination with 3, 4 or 5 large gates, the current is very swift.
You should keep in mind your capabilities when determining if it's safe to go.
Hope this helps.
