After skipping a week, giving the crustaceans plenty of time to fill the river bottom. I went out again yesterday. It's offically August 1st and the crabs should start running any day now. Well, today wasn't that day. With 24 traps, varied depths from 9' to 4', chicken and razors mixed throughout the spread, AND arriving at the "honey hole" at 5:05...we caught 8 crabs!!:52: We stayed until around 9:15 with the outgoing tide starting at 5. After making 4 runs with 1 undersized to show for it, we picked up. Tried a little further south for a few runs and managed to pick up an Oyster Cracker, a couple shortys, and 1 more keeper for the basket. Well ALL Right, we had the 3/4 I was looking for, but I was thinking Bushel, not Dozen!!
On the run back home, there seemed to be more crabbers out than ever. I didn't count them, but had to be over the 43 from 2 weeks ago. I'm quitting this time for weeks! It pi$$es me off to kill a Friday pm so I can get up at 4AM, dragging all day Sat 'cause you been up since 4AM, for not even enough crabs to split amongst the crew?? Not to mention the crap about what an idiot I MUST be coming from my friends (starting to think they might be right!) Maybe I need to take a weekday off and give it a shot? But then I might be wiser to use a vacation day going offshore to fill a cooler with Mahi and Tuna than to catch A crab cake...:scratchchin3:

Don't feel bad.I know guys that haul all the way to OC with a crew of 6 to catch 1 or 2 Tuna and a few mahi, then scrub the boat & gear and haul all the way back to Baltimore.then they say....We did pretty good.:eek2:

Capt Nick- Like GARY says, "it only takes money to buy a boat , not brains!":D

AND, I've been offshore with a LOT less to show for it soooo, that sounds pretty good to me. After all, it is a VERY large ocean out there.

I am going to be on vacation the week of 8/10 and am hoping the crabbing picks up in the Chester by then. I enjoy going over to Kent Narrows but it is a lot easier to drop at Bogle's in Rock Hall and crab 5 minutes from the dock instead of 30-40. Hopefully they pick up soon!
