Just found out I need to re-power my Parker. 23 foot center console had a 2 stroke Yammy 225hp. Should I stay with the Yamaha 4 stroke or should I explore Honda, etc??
Where would you shop for just a motor??

New or Used? and I have heard that Hondas are an ok motor but not great. Go with a Yamaha, you can't go wrong there. If you can't afford the Yami get a Suzuki 4 stroke 225. Just as good and cheaper/lighter too.

Suzuki's are really nice motors. Another possibility would be an E-Tec. Hondas are really heavy, I think you would be disappointed with the performance.

we have a pro-line 230 WA that had a yam 225 2 stroke on it. and repowered to a suzuki 200 four stroke. Don't miss the 225 at all. The 200 is just as powerful and uses about 40% less fuel. we've had it for a few years.. with the exception of a computer problem that was fixed under warranty, its been good. runs real smooth and quiet.

How does she handle the added weight of a 4 stroke ? Any truth that the boat was designed for a 2 stroke and the addition of the extra weight can effect the stability of the vessel?

Sportfishing Magazine did a test and the honda 225 only produced 216HP while the Yammie 225 produced 237. My choice is Yammie.

I have a 1989 23 parker w/03' 225 suzuki 2 stroke. If your boat has a full transom with a bracket you should be ok, The four stroke adds about 100lbs to your transom. If you have the cut out transom the extra weight could be an issue. get the actual weight of the engine & compare it to what you have now. As one of the prior posts said, the boat was designed for a 2stroke. I prefer the low maint. of a 2 stroke vs the expensive maint of the 4 st. GL.
