i know this question doesnt belong on here but i was looking for as many responses as i could get doesnt seem like the boat talk board gets hit as much , the last 2 motors i had were yamahas and i was thinking of buying this 2001 evenrude 70hp 4 stroke i know alot depends on his maintnence but does anyone have anything good or bad to say about these motors 2500 for the motor also i was thinking of puting this motor on a 16' closed bow runabout just for crabbing it has an 85 on there now to much motor should i get a 50?

Seadog, The first thing I'd check is the weight of the 4 stroke vs your current motor. 4 strokes tend to run significantly heavier hp for hp than 2 strokes. #2 is to determine if this is an interference type engine, i.e. do the valves and pistons share the same combustion chamber space at different points in the cycle. If the timing chain or belt breaks on an interference engine the results are disasterous. Belts especially should be replaced in a timely fashion. At one point I believe Suzuki made the four stroke engines for Evunrude, not sure if that was the case in 2001, but that was a good thing as Suzuki and Honda had the most 4 stroke experience.
