i just read on here sombody stated com.crabbers can lay line out anytime they want just can not dip till start time and somtimes just run line to see if they have crabs on. once a crab is pulled up over the roller of trot line do they get right back on bait ? whats the feeling out there on this. i always said we'll get him next past if one's missed ,but whats your take on this .wikk you get that second shot at him?

If he is hungry, why wouldn't he be right back. I don't think a crab thinks, " Wow That was a close one. I think I better lay low":clap:...........Gary

I once caught the same she crab 3 times on a 1200' run.
She had a deformed claw thats how I knew it was the same one.

I've watch crabs that I decided not to dip (missed) let go of the bait as it went over the roller only to swim back to the bait as it began to sink again.

It might be fun to mark a few crabs with some kind of a marker and see how many times you catch them...............Gary

comm don't run the line to see if there's any crabs on it, they run it to keep the bait from gettin ate up before they can keep um.

I have taken sharpie markers with me and actually wrote the date on the shells of sponge crabs and caught the same crabs multiple times in the same day. I have also caught them weeks later after they have dropped their eggs....Crabs are scavengers and are programmed to eat dead or dying (not to say they won't take a live creature if it happens by) If a crab drops off without being caught, there is a good chance it will be back.

I have caught crabs, let them dry, paint obscene words on their shells and let them go.

Used fingure nail polish in fact( NO, first wife not SWMBO)

No libation or other anything was involved of course.

Next day, we get up and go crabbin.

I caught 2 crabs that talked the foulest shells.

Oh yeah, if your in an area for any length of time crabbin. Tryit.

thanks redbeard for that info. now i have to wonder about the lodgic of that action? if as it seems crabs will get right back on line ,than they are wasting time and fuel trying to keep crabs off line till legal time.i am just trying to figure that out . anyway seem what i been saying is true what you miss you can get next run.
