Hds 10 radar overlay

OK Guys, so I know to make the Radar overlay work properly with my HDS I need a heading sensor, but reading hte manual it shows that you can use it without a heading sensor if you are moving...am I misreading this? The reason I ask is I just got my BR24 installed and I cannot find an option anywhere to do Chart Overlay, I have an overlay softkey but it gives me the option to overlay weather. I would think it woul dlet me overlay the radar but just not be accurate without the heading sensor...especially since it has an overlay button for weather but I don't have any weather sensor on my boat? Any help would be appreciated!

Make sure you have the latest software upgrade. I had the same issue, but once the updated software was released and installed the option was available. If is not the issue, I suspect that it is looking for the heading sensor and will not show the option unless it finds it. I have also found that too much overlay "stuff" will cause the unit to slow, get confused and/or crash. When I am overlaying high rez Navionics bethmetry with Serius weather and SST info I usually go to split screen on the radar/sonar.
