As a two week a year member of what the board has described as the PA Navy (I don't fit the negative remarks that I've seen) I have a question.
If there's a heavy east wind in the bay the water clarity decreases and is a non productive time for flounder fishing as I've read in the coastal fisherman. I assume that outside of the inlet the results would be the same. How far off shore would I need to go to get the water clarity required for flounder fishing?I've kept my off shore limit, on a good day, to the African Queen Reef.

it will depend on the tides and how much and long the wind has been blowing. you will have to go out and see for yourself. i have at times been out in a east wind in the back bay and went behind a island or 2 and have had a little clear water to fish in.

The water was pretty clear in the surf today, probably clearer even further out.

Not sure where the African Queen is, but we went 15 miles out of Chincoteague today (to 80 ft depths) and the flounder said the water clarity was good. Yesterday a guy weighed in a 7+ lb flounder and he said they caught them in 65 ft.

Thanks for the reply's. I will try the Bay first and then work the artificial reefs weather permitting.

save your self some time and frustration just head to the wrecks, a lot better chance at keeper sized flounder.

Ditto on the wrecks/reefs if weather permits, as there are very few keepers in the back bays at this time of year - they are in the ocean. We found a pretty good spot and caught 4 keepers out of about 50 fish today, and 7 keepers out of about 30 yesterday. Nothing huge, but some respectable ones up to 21.5 inch.
